Baking Day

Yesterday was Saturday and even though it was really hot outside, I decided to make the afternoon a baking day. I have not baked much because of how much baking heats up the kitchen making it almost unbearable. Even with the AC running none stop, baking during the summer months is not very enjoyable. My boss suggested we take one day a week and make it a baking day. Trying to follow this good suggestion has been hard during the summer. We are expected, where I work (Rhodes Bake-N-Serv, www.rhodesbread.com) to bake the product we manufacture. So what I ended up doing was putting a small fan on the counter in the kitchen with help combat the temp increase caused by an oven being on for many hours. It worked! It cooled things down enough that I was able to make four loaves of bread (wheat and multigrain), a pumpkin pie, chocolate chip cookies (about 5 dozen), and my favorite Rhodes Texas Rolls (24 rolls). Half the rolls I put in the freezer for later on in the week. It was a good day! Made me feel like I got something done!
