Happy Gift Day

Here we are again facing down another Christmas. To me Christmas was my mother. She would start in the summer and by the time Christmas rolled around we were sure ready for it. The fudge was cooked the shortbread and the Christmas cake. By Christmas morning I was beside myself. Now my mom is gone and I am an Atheist, Christmas just seems like an inconvenience, but I smile and try and spend quality time with whatever family we can muster. I go through the motions and hope each year I find the Christmas spirit regardless. Besides to me it is a day to just have an excuse to dine with family and catch up but it would sure be nice if I could just conjure up the special feelings and memories of a childhood gone. I will go out to buy a tree and put it up in my Dad's house and decorate it with memories of Christmases past. This year I am determined to make fudge and not overcook it like I do every year! Maybe I can cook brussel sprouts that people other than me will eat! That Turkey will be moist and my egg nog will not run dry!
