Apple butter. I live in whats considered "little India" of Chicago and there are some good grocers in the area. My favorite is Fresh Farms 3 blocks from by house. They have a great assortment of spices and a ton of vegetables, some that I know and some strange ones I have no idea what they are. Every year this time, they being in apples from Michigan so I bought some Honey Crisp (even though they say honey, they are more tart) and some Galas and have apple butter cooking.
Whenever I can, I try to buy local. Living in Chicago, I consider anything within 5 hours local so I will try to buy vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and meats from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Not only am I supporting local farming, but I am also getting the freshest goods. Plus it takes less fuel to transport the goods; trying to do my part to save the environment.
