This is a great blog with a whole series on specifics for point and shoot cameras. (thanks to Joanna for originally posting it)

http://www.insanitytheory.net/kitchenwench/photography-101-an-introduction/

This one is from a food stylist/photographer, more about orientation, props, and setup, but she has some awesome info scattered about pertaining to lighting and some of the simple methods she uses (for us regular Joes) She also has a monthly challenge thing set up on flickr, where you check out her blog pic and try to replicate it. Very cool for practicing. :

And there are some great instructables about not only all aspects of photography, but how to make your own light boxes or tents (for real cheap). Here is what I found in a search:

http://www.instructables.com/tag/?sort=none&q=light+box+tent

Dajana suggested this one for making a light tent:

I'll add to the links as I find more, does anyone else have any? Since the subject is so huge, I started narrowing my search to "food photography" and that has helped some. Please share any you have!

Michele just reminded me of this one (thanks so much shels!):

Karen suggested this one (looks very helpful too):

Michele suggested this one:

After just merely scratching the surface over the last few days, I've came to the conclusion that my photos seriously suck. (except for a very very few, which obviously were by accident)

Why didn't you guys tell me I sucked so bad?

Out of the links I posted above, the pioneerwoman is def the best! Man, I'll be reading just her blog for weeeeeeeks! Actually, while that's true, I think I need to figure out what specific thing is most important to me then practice that. what do you think? suggestions?

Yesssssss! It's more helpful to me if I have it right here, so I can refer to where my settings are while I'm reading about it. I did that while reading my manual too. I'm obviously a hands on learner LOL

I had to stop since I don't have my camera with me. =(

Plus... I don't know how much 'adjusting' I can do in the middle of cooking.

right! I think it's impossible to learn while cooking. I'm going to set up tomorrow and take some time with some shots. I want to work specifically on aperture and composition. (so I'll do that in normal/day lighting)
